CCA Appreciates Teachers and Nurses

CCA, America’s leader in partnership corrections, is taking time to recognize its teachers and nurses this month, in its observance of Teacher Appreciation Week and National Nurses Week.
The dedicated work of educators and nurses throughout CCA facilities has impacted countless offender lives, whether it be providing comfort to an individual who has fallen ill or guiding a student to earn his or her first degree.
“It’s wonderful to see the faces of students when they complete their education program,” said Tom Shaw, CCA Director of Educational Services. “It’s a proud moment for everyone and I’m especially grateful to our teachers and their commitments to seeing the individuals in our care succeed.”
In 2011, CCA educational staff assisted 3,092 inmates obtain their GED. The proven results of released inmates’ participation in education programs, such as a reduced recidivism rate and a higher employment rate, are a testament to the positive impact teachers have, and their ability to transform lives and better communities.
CCA’s nurses and other healthcare professionals are equally as dedicated. Using their skilled training, and in many cases years of practical experience, their contributions often go unnoticed.
“Our health care professionals pride themselves on being great problem solvers and work as a team to help each other and those in our care,” said Herb Spiwak, CCA Vice President of Healthcare Services. “This is great opportunity to thank all of our nursing staff on the high quality care they provide day in and day out and their dedication to improving the health of the patients we serve.”
